Welcome to the site of blacksmith and armourer Matthew Bayley. From here you may navigate to various pages showcasing Matthew’s work over the past 14 years, as both a historical and contemporary metal worker.
Matthew has been blacksmithing since his late teens, a passion that led to a BA in Design Crafts at Herefordshire College of Art and Design, following which he set up his own business providing hand crafted items for the home, as well as historical items for re-enactment and living history.
Matthew’s interest in history and over 19 years commitment to re-enactment ensures a high quality living history grade finish to all historical pieces. His experience on the field at battle re-enactments also means that he understands how armour must move to allow the wearer to fight to the maximum of their capabilities.
Matthew’s enthusiasm for armour has also led him to work in the film, television and theatre industries. Such work has included ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentleman’, ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Troy’, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ and ‘Eragon’ and The National Theatres “St Joan” to name a few. Matthew has often been consulted when a historical approach is necessary.
Since setting up his own business in 2000 Matthew has produced work for museums, historical demonstrations and re-enactors. As a member of the Worcestershire Craft Guild, Matthew’s more contemporary work for use around the home can often be found at one of their craft fairs.
